    • So you’ve established an interest in Buddhism.  You understand that the main goal in Buddhism is to reach enlightenment.  But one question continues to nag in the back of your mind:  How can I, a more or less regular human being, ever expect to achieve such a highly awakened state?  Is it even possible?  Is it worth the trouble?
    • Aniruddha, one of the Buddha’s wisest disciples, once made a similar request of his teacher.  According to tradition, he once said, “Oh Buddha, please tell us how lay people are to become enlightened and how they should behave if they want to achieve Nirvana.”
    • The Buddha’s answer was concise, clear, and utterly complete.  It became known as the Sutra of the Eight Realizations of Great Beings and is considered one of the great works of Mahayana Buddhism.  In it, the great teacher delineates eight concepts we, as lay people, must realize in order to become an enlightened being.
    • Sounds simple, right?  Well, come to our new Sutra Studies Class to find out!  This free class will be taught in English by me, Malinda.  (I’m back from maternity leave with a new addition to the family!)  Those of you who know me, know that we’ll have an open discussion format.  We will be referring to the book Buddhism:  Pure and Simple by Master Hsing Yun.  This book is available for purchase at the temple’s bookstore for $14.95.  The book is not required, but it is recommended.  Feel free to try out the class first before deciding to purchase it. Be prepared to awaken to your inner Buddha.  I look forward to seeing you there!

    Hello,

My name is Susanne Raab and I am a member of the Chinese Meetup group.

We were looking for things to do, places to go, get in touch with Chinese with our group and when I found you in the Asia Trend magazine I was more than happy.

I just saw you offer Chinese classes? When exactly and is it only for children?

Would we be able to go to your place and learn more about Buddhism and maybe even try your vegetarian food? That would be wonderful.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    Hello,
My name is Jairo. Pronounced “High roh”. Thank you for having the Dharma class. And for inviting monks and nuns with great experience and wisdom to give talks. I enjoyed Buddha’s Birthday Celebration. I hope to put up some video of the spectacular shows. We are all very fortunate that Guang Ming Temple is here for us in Orlando. It is a great resource. The people are friendly and welcoming. I try to go to Buddhist Dharma Class or Discussion. The teachers are excellent and encouraging. The best kept secret in Orlando. I go to the Buddhist meetup group once a month and there are many beginners curious about Buddhism and meditation and there are some experienced students of meditation and Buddhism. So there is much interest in Buddhism all over Orlando. I hope you can open up more classes during the week on the subject as some people may not be able to make it on weekends. I am also impressed with the master and his books. I had to get Core Teachings and Describing the Indescribable and Buddhism Pure and Simple. Now I have plenty to read. Now I need to come to meditation on Wednesdays. Thanks for everything Guang Ming Temple and its members are doing for Orlando. So one reason why Orlando is called the City Beautiful is because it has Guang Ming Temple.
    Compassion,
    Jairo
