Venerable Master Hsing Yun was born in Chiangsu Province, China in 1928. He entered a monastery near Nanjing at age twelve. He was fully ordained in 1941, and is the 48th patriarch of the Lin-chi (Rinzai) Ch’an School. In 1949, amid the turbulance of civil war, he went to Taiwan.
For nearly a half century, Venerable Master Hsing Yun has devoted his efforts to transforming this world through the practice of Humanistic Buddhism, which takes to heart spiritual practice in daily life. With an emphasis on not needing to “go some place else” to find enlightenment, we can realize our true nature in the here and now, within this precious human birth and this world. When we actualize altruism, joyfulness, and universality, we are practicing the fundamental concepts of Humanistic Buddhism. When we give faith, hope, joy, and service, we are helping all beings, as well as ourselves.

Fo Guang Shan

Venerable Master Hsing Yun founded Fo Guang Shan (Chinese translation meaning, Buddha’s Light Mountain) in 1967. Since then it has evolved from a mountaintop bamboo forest to the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. Presently Fo Guang Shan has over 200 branch temples throughout the world carrying out the goals of propagating Humanistic Buddhism and establishing a Pure Land on Earth.Our Mission:

• To propagate Buddhist teachings through cultural activities.
• To nurture talents through education.
• To benefit societies through charitable programs
• To purify human hearts and mind through Buddhist practices.

The Guang Ming Temple (legally registered as Internation Buddhist Progress Society, Florida) was founded in 1992. It is one of the branch temples from Fo Guang Shan. Located in the beautiful city of Orlando, Florida; Guang Ming Temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in Central Florida. In Mandarin Chinese, “Guang-Ming” means bright light. The temple features:

• Classrooms

The temple will provide multicultural education, serve as a center for social functions and festival activities, and most importantly, through this, the Buddha’s teachings can be made available to benefit society through community outreach programs, and enhance the spiritual growth of Buddhist devotees through their everyday actions and pilgrimages.Our temple holds service every Sunday from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The Buddhist Memorial Complex is to put into effect the Buddhist concept of “ultimate care,” to help believers handle Dharma functions, and to provide eternal peace and care for both the living and the deceased.
