Buddha’s Birthday is recognized on the eighth day of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. Fo Guang Shan Guang Ming Temple and Buddha’s Light International Association FL chapter will celebrate the Buddha’s birthday on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with “Bathing the Buddha” ceremony and Cloud & Water Exhibition at Guang Ming Temple.
The ritual celebration of the Buddha’s birthday will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the “Bathing the Buddha Ceremony”. At 1:30 p.m., a series of entertainment will start featuring Chinese Lion dance, cultural folk-dance performance. The Festival will have vanity booths of vegetarian delicacies to promote healthy living and grand raffle prizes. According to the Buddhist texts, bathing the statue of the Buddha will produce infinite merit and blessings. It will not only lead to the cessation of all sufferings, but will also bring prosperity, protection and comfortable old age. Cloud & Water Exhibition
Exhibition Date: 5/3/2009 ~ 7/12/2009
Exhibition Time: 10:00am ~ 5:00pm (Closed Monday)This exhibition included hundreds of photographs were selected from more than fifty thousand photographs and has been divided into the following four categories, “Handing Down the Light”, “The Torch of Wisdom”, “The Forever Turning Dharma Wheel”, and “Oneness and Coexistence” to link up events that have taken place over the past 50 years. In the past 50 years, Venerable Master Hsing Yun traveled all over the world and dedicated his life to the promotion of Humanistic Buddhism. It leaves confidence for lay Buddhists, history in Buddhism, Merit and virtues for society and grateful in the world of mortals also memory of Humanistic Buddhism. Both Chinese and English Speaking narrators will briefly explain the background and history of photos during the exhibition. Welcome everyone join this event.
