When you put food and YAD together you are bound to find good conversation and laughter. A perfect example is Orlando YADs pot luck that just passed on Saturday Feb. 23, 2008. Where YAD, BLIA members, friends, and family could join together and have a fun night. Each BLIA YAD member brought a plate of food to share with the rest and after the four sentences the eating began. There were dishes such as pasta, tacos, yams, pita, and the Yeh’s famous noodles. Though the dishes varied they were all vegetarian and very delicious.
What else did the YAD do besides eating? Well, lead by Venerable Chueh Fan, YAD learned a lot about origins! Yes! Origins! That’s origins about how YAD began and dependent origination. First we went over how Master Hsing Yun started YAD and the guidelines, purpose, and structure. It was very inspirational to the YAD members and for the future YAD members who decided to come and listen. Then, Venerable Chueh Fan taught us about dependent originations with an amusing slide show. This concept means all success of a movement is never the achievement of a single man. It all depends on the combinations of causes and conditions. With new and old members we were able to have questions and discussions about the topic and how it all ties in with our daily lives and YAD.
With the agenda in mind, YAD was not done after the discussion. With full stomachs and a more enlightened mind YAD needed to do something easy yet productive. That’s why fundraising by coin rolling was perfect! Previously, we asked people to donate coins and loose change and to bring it to the dinner. While piles and piles of coins were sprawled across the living room floor of Connie and Howard Yeh’s house the YAD was working hard to separate dimes, nickels, pennies, and quarters. But Orlando YAD has the ability to make any task a good time with jokes and conversation and so time went by quickly while the rolls were adding up.
Overall the night was a sensation and hopefully we will see you at our next YAD Gathering, so keep posted!
